CloudFlare is a CDN (content delivery network) with a layer of security. When you have switched on CloudFlare for your website all traffic will be routed through CloudFlares global network.

CloudFlares network stores a copy of static files in the CDN, which causes faster loading of the website globally as it is downloaded of the server closest to the visitor to your website. CloudFlare caches resources such as CSS, JavaScript and images.
CloudFlare decides which resources to be cached based on filename so there is no configuration required from you before using CloudFlare.

CloudFlare also compresses data for all request automatically.

Last, but not least, CloudFlare blocks traffic perceived as attack on the website and limits the access for boots trying to abuse the website. This means less usage of traffic and server resources for your website.
